A Message from FWC President, Helene DesRuisseaux

Dear FWC Members and Friends,

As your new president, I am honored to serve you and to lead our dedicated board, a group committed to honoring the 103-year legacy of this great organization. After an unprecedented year marked by pandemic precautions, we naturally looked forward to the prospect of renewed opportunities to meet and resume in-person events. At the time of this writing, however, we are in a ”fourth Covid wave” and another period of mask-wearing for indoor activities. We will have to remain flexible and adaptable to events as they unfold.

I commend the Sections and their chairs, most of whom were able to maintain their activities virtually during the past year. Your ingenuity and creativity are genuinely appreciated, and there is no doubt we will find even more creative ways to engage our members in the coming year! The UPDATEs and e-blasts remain our best way to communicate with everyone about FWC activities, plans, and developments, so please read them and feel free to share any news with the editors that is of interest to our members.

The Sections remain our most vital source of membership recruitment, and I urge you all to invite your colleagues, friends, and guests to join the FWC so they too can experience the benefit of our activities. We have an exciting lineup of speakers for the coming General Meetings, which will continue either by Zoom or in-person as conditions permit.

As always, we remain committed to our Scholarship Program and raising funds to support deserving UCLA students. Your contributions make those awards possible, and I thank you in advance for your generous support. We hope/plan to return to having our annual Scholarship Dinner this year, and to invite the recipients of last year’s awards to the ceremony as well.

In the meantime, stay tuned for more news as it develops, and stay safe!

Helene
