Special Interest Sections

FWC members are encouraged to participate in as many sections as they choose. See the Calendar for days and times of section meetings.

The Birthday Club meets every 2nd Wednesday, to celebrate FWC members’ birthdays and enjoy a potluck lunch. Celebrants are invited to share their personal and family histories.

The Book Section meets every 2nd Tuesday afternoon for book reviews, discussions, recommendations, and much more.

Bridge Section: Evening meets 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings for experienced players.

Bridge Section: Morning meets 1st Thursday morning for experienced players.

Bridge Section: Intermediate meets 1st and 3rd Tuesday afternoons.  Meetings include instruction and play of bridge hands.

Foreign Language: French Reading and Conversation meets 2nd and 4th Monday mornings.

Foreign Language: German Conversation meets 2nd and 4th Tuesday mornings.

Foreign Language: Spanish Conversation meets 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings.

Members practice their language skills through reading and conversation.

Galleries and Sights meets five times annually to explore cultural landmarks of Los Angeles and nearby areas.

International Cooking meets every 3rd Monday evening to share culinary skills with a foreign or eclectic flair.

Jazz Appreciation will meet in local venues and to enjoy performances, as well as gathering to enjoy conversation, documentaries, and other media of an American art form that is celebrated the world over.

Let’s Do Lunch meets every 4th Friday to sample and savor a variety of cuisines at local restaurants throughout West L.A. and the Valley.

Music in Cultural Contexts provides members with the opportunity to play and/or listen to a variety of musical genres, styles, and media; interpret, discuss, and analyze musical pieces; and reflect on the interdisciplinary nature of the arts. Meeting dates and times TBA.

Next Generation meets to network, socialize, explore UCLA cultural events, and encourage new members to join the FWC! Events TBA.

Playreading meets at 7 p.m., every 2nd Thursday evening at the UCLA Faculty Center for an informal study of classical and contemporary drama and comedy. Participate in a reading or join the group as an observer to enjoy an evening of theater and discussion. Click here for the 2016-17 list of plays.

Tai Chi meets every Tuesday afternoon. Intermediate and advanced levels are welcome at an ongoing Tai Chi class with a skilled instructor ($5 per class).

Tennis meets at the UCLA Sycamore Courts on Monday mornings for players of all levels, and Friday mornings for players at an intermediate or higher level. Activities include playing doubles and mixed groups, tournaments, and round robins.

Writers meets 1st Friday morning for guided writing exercises and thoughtful feedback.

Bicycling, Bird Study, Chess, Computer/Desktop Publishing, Garden Tours, Genealogy, Golf, Moms and Kids, Movies, Music, Safety, Swimming, Travel, Walking/Hiking, and Wine Tasting with Potluck are sections that are currently inactive but may be reactivated if there is sufficient interest.
